The visit will include the capital Sofia, as well as the town of Rakovski, where the largest Catholic community in the country is located.
According to the information released, the apostolic visit was organized in response to an invitation from the Bulgarian side, and after Bulgaria the Pope would continue his journey to Skopje, Macedonia between 7th and 9th May.
The official website of the Catholic Church in Bulgaria announced that the logo of the visit is in the spirit of Pope John XXIII (1958-1963) with his message “Pacem in terris”/ „Peace on Earth“. Pope John XXIII has a strong connection with Bulgaria, because for 10 years – between 1925 and 1935, the future Pope served as papal nuns in Sofia. Because of that, the Vatican emphasizes its missionary role with the message of peace as well as its strong ties with Bulgaria.
